Zevenkerke

De abdijschool van Zevenkerken is een van de laatste internaten in België. Frank Theys gaf de scholieren van het 5de jaar een DV videocamera waarmee ze gedurende enkele maanden hun eigen leven in de school filmden. De schooldirectie verbood wegens smaad de vertoningen tijdens Brugge 2002. Nochtans monteerde Frank Theys het geheel zonder zelf iets toe te voegen. Het is de dagelijkse sfeer van een hedendaags internaat. Maar de sfeer van Gombrovich of de novelle ‘De Ervaringen van de jonge Törless’ van Musil is nooit veraf.

The school of the abbey of Zevenkerken is one of the last boarding schools in Belgium. Frank Theys was asked by Bruges, Cultural Capital of Europe 2002, to make a social-cultural project with the student of the 5th grade of the school. He gave them a DV-camera for a couple of months to let them film their own life in the school. Frank Theys only edited the material together. Nevertheless, after a few shows the schoolmaster charged a lawyer against Bruges for so-called slander and libel, so the show had to stop. The film shows the daily atmosphere of the life in the boarding school. But the atmosphere of Gombrovich or Musil’s novel ‘The Experiences of the young Törless’ is never far away.
